Devonian Sanstone - photographic print by Alex Rowbotham
More accurately this sandstone is called Otter Sandstone, rich in iron oxide. Found on the coastal areas close to the river Otter at Budleigh Salterton in Devon, United Kingdom.
The pebble beach and cliffs are part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site, although this is an arrangement of geographical convenience, rather than being correct from the geological time point of view. Much of the geology is Triassic, represented by bunter sandstone (Budleigh Salterton Pebble Beds).
This image has been used in a museum installation to help illustrate an atmosphere of the Devonian and Triassic periods

Helford River - photographic print by Alex Rowbotham
The Helford River is a flooded river valley located in Cornwall, United Kingdom and is not a true river. It is fed by a number of small streams into its numerous creeks. There are seven creeks on the Helford, these are Ponsontuel Creek, Mawgan Creek, Polpenwith Creek, Polwheveral Creek, Frenchman's Creek, Port Navas Creek, and Gillan Creek, the best known of which is Frenchman's Creek, made famous by Daphne du Maurier in her novel of the same name. A little further up river is Tremayne Quay, built for a visit by Queen Victoria in the 1840s which she then declined to make, allegedly because it was raining!
Song of the Sea - photographic print by Alex Rowbotham
Nanjizel (Mill Bay or Nanjizal) is a beach and cove situated one mile to the south-east of Land's End, Cornwall, UK.
Nanjizel has no direct access via road and is usually reached via the South West Coast Path by walking from Land's End, and so is often very quiet. Nanjizel is also a noted bird and seal watching location.
Nanjizel can vary from a beautiful sandy beach to a stony cove, all at the whim of the sea. It faces due west out to the Atlantic. To the south is the 'Song of the Sea', where the sea has worn through a narrow passageway from the cove to the ocean.
Due to it's relative inaccessibility, Nanjizel has remained more or less untouched and never gets busy.
Situated at the end of a short, shallow valley, the beach is a pretty boulder strewn cove with unusually clear water. The beach used to be much more sandy but after storms around 20 years ago much of it was washed away.
This image was used in a museum installation to help illustrate the atmosphere of the Jurassic period.
